Dipping One’s Toes in the Social Networking Stream: Using the Read-Write Web in Classrooms and Libraries

Call it Web 2.0, the Social Web, or the Read/Write Web, how people use the Internet, especially young ones, has changed dramatically over the past few years. This beginner’s session introduces the most popular tools of Web 2.0 including blogs, wikis, rss feeds, and content sharing sites. Examples of how educators are making use of these tools to aid student learning will be discussed. The session concludes with a discussion of the safe and ethical use of web 2.0 tools.

This workshop was, in its difficulty, available to individuals who are at all skill levels.
I came in as a novice. No ideas of how to use web 2.0. I came away with ideas, confidence and excitement about the future. I think I need to experiment and really spend time exploring the new world.

As always Doug did an excellent job - very flexible, open to questions and enthusiastic and knowledgeable. In depth knowledge of subject material kept it interesting moving quickly enough to hold interest but not losing the participants.

I love watching presentations like this one. I tend to have so many ideas to share with my teachers that I am overwhelmed before I get to the point of actually sharing the ideas. Seeing the structure of this presentation gives me a basic format and focus for a possible PD with my teachers.
